Zola’s Labrador Litter Showcases Rare Black, Yellow, and Chocolate Pups

In a remarkable turn of events, Zola, a 4-year-old black Labrador retriever, gave birth to a litter that showcases an exquisite blend of yellow, chocolate, and black puppies.

This uncommon combination of colors in a single litter has only been observed on very few occasions, making it a monumental event for Labrador enthusiasts.

Tina Davis (62) and Martin Davis (63), the proud owners of Zola, embarked on their Labrador breeding journey back in 2006.

Their ambition? To masterfully combine genetics and produce a litter that encompassed all three distinct Labrador colors.

To achieve this, the Davis couple aligned themselves with Wylanbria Kennels, a trusted stud farm they’ve been partnered with since their early breeding days.

The dream was fueled further with the expertise of Diana Stevens (47), the owner of Wylanbria Kennels. Together, they embarked on a mission to cultivate a lineage of stud dogs that could harmoniously produce this tricolor litter when paired with their female Labs.

The male in this genetic masterpiece was none other than Stevens’ black Labrador, Rocks, aged 3. Rocks, like Zola, was meticulously bred to carry the genes of all three colors.

Achieving this genetic feat wasn’t a walk in the park. It took the combined effort of over a decade, ensuring the right genes were perfectly aligned, to realize this dream. And when the day finally came, on October 18, Zola delivered ten enchanting puppies: a blend of two yellow, three chocolate, and five black pups.

Recollecting the momentous day, Tina Davis shared her anticipation and excitement with SWNS, “From day one of our breeding journey, we envisioned a male and female duo capable of producing all three colors. Today, we’ve achieved what we once thought was a distant dream.”

However, the breeding journey isn’t solely about achieving the perfect color blend. “Beyond the colors, ensuring we produce healthy puppies is crucial. Labradors can be predisposed to several genetic issues,” she highlighted, emphasizing the responsibility of ethical breeding.

Zola’s unique pregnancy wasn’t without its challenges, ultimately requiring a C-section for her delivery. Given this, Davis has resolved not to breed Zola any further. Yet, the legacy continues as half of Zola’s exceptional litter possesses the DNA to reproduce this tri-color magic in future generations.

Looking to the future with optimism, Davis reveals plans to continue the lineage through one of Zola’s daughters, which presents an exciting array of possibilities in color combinations. “Successfully producing this multi-colored litter has paved a path for us to replicate this feat,” Davis expressed with pride.

She concludes, “Regardless of their color, each of our puppies carries a promise of being an incredible addition to any family they become a part of.”
