But amidst the sorrow, a glimmer of hope emerged. The dog, who would soon be known as Feisty, was discovered to be alive, much to the relief and joy of the onlookers. This moment marked the beginning of an extraordinary journey of recovery and love.
Feisty’s plight quickly spread on social media, sparking a wave of concern and calls for help. This led to her rescue by Second Chance Rescue in New York City. A compassionate bystander, together with the rescue team, swiftly transported Feisty to an emergency hospital, setting the stage for her remarkable recovery.

Upon arrival at the hospital, Feisty’s condition moved the veterinary staff deeply. Severely underweight, with infected skin and missing patches of fur, she was a picture of neglect. “She was covered in urine and fleas, and her nails were so overgrown they were embedded into her paw pads. But the biggest concern was the masses on her body and whether they were cancerous or benign,” recounted Rachel Larkin from Second Chance Rescue. Immediate medical attention, including antibiotics and pain relief, was provided to Feisty, marking the first step in her healing journey.

Feisty’s charm and longing for affection didn’t go unnoticed. The hospital staff quickly fell in love with her, showering her with the affection she had longed for. This love was reciprocated when Feisty met the rescue volunteers, her tail wagging and kisses abundant, showing her gratitude and newfound happiness.
A New Chapter Begins

The fear that Feisty might be suffering from cancer loomed over her recovery. However, in a twist of fate, a loving family stepped forward, ready to fill her life with joy and comfort. This marked the beginning of a beautiful bond between Feisty and her foster family.
Renamed FeeFee, the once forlorn pup blossomed into a beacon of happiness. She embraced her new life with a family that adored her, cherishing every moment of love and attention. “She’s begun to bark and (respectfully) demands cuddles, food, and attention … She LOVES visitors and meeting everyone during walks. It is very important to her to greet everyone,” shared Ursula Schmidt, Feisty’s forever mom.
