On a chilly, drizzling day, NYPD Officer Michael Pascale stumbled upon Joey. While patrolling a city park in his police vehicle, he noticed a small black dog nestled amidst discarded syringes and shattered beer containers.

Getting closer, Officer Pascale noticed a hefty chain binding Joey to a nearby fence. Drenched from the rain and trembling, Joey had evidently been left to fend for himself.

Pascale recalled to The Dodo, “His eyes were showing this desperate plea for help. My instinct was to rescue him immediately.”

From Drenched & Alone to Sheltered & Cherished With his heart set on assisting, Officer Pascale whisked Joey to the Animal Care Centers of NYC’s Brooklyn branch.

As he gently dried the thankful canine, an unmistakable connection sparked between them.

“I see more than just an animal,” remarked Pascale. “I see a living being with feelings. And that’s impossible to ignore.”

Upon sending a snapshot of the forlorn dog to his wife, she swiftly replied: “Bring him home!” Just like that, the duo agreed to welcome Joey into their family, pending one minor obstacle.

The Longest 72 Hours

The ACC team informed Officer Pascale about the compulsory 72-hour stray hold for Joey. Despite a pet’s apparent distress or neglect, there’s always the chance an anxious owner is seeking them.

This period provides an opportunity for rightful owners to reclaim their misplaced or purloined companions.

Torn apart by the brief separation, Pascale vowed to return and did so the following day, and then the next.

Their bond only deepened with each reunion. Once the hold expired, Pascale eagerly formalized Joey’s adoption. As the final documents were signed, an elated Joey greeted Pascale.

The jubilant dog showered Pascale with affection, who in turn assured Joey he’d always be protected and cherished. Together, they embarked on their shared journey.

A Heartwarming New Chapter From being a forsaken stray, Joey transitioned to a beloved family member. He relishes city escapades with Pascale and enjoys cozy moments on the couch. Interestingly, Joey has morphed into quite the mom’s favorite. While Joey enjoys his digital fame at @Joey_Good_Doggo on Instagram, he has his quirks. Occasionally raiding trash cans and his aversion to rain persists, yet he radiates joy. And above all, he is enveloped in love.

Ultimately, that’s the only desire of every dog.
