Dog Waits 500 Days in Shelter for a Home, Gets Returned After Just One Week

In the bustling city of Austin, Texas, a heart-wrenching story unfolded at the Austin Animal Center. Drogo, an American Pitbull Terrier, faced the ultimate test of patience and hope.

After his owner was evicted, Drogo was left at the shelter, beginning a long and uncertain wait for a new family.

Days turned into weeks, and weeks into months, yet Drogo remained at the shelter, watching other dogs come and go.

His gentle nature and loving heart made him a favorite among the volunteers and staff, but a forever home seemed elusive. Jessica, one of the volunteers, shared her affection for Drogo, describing him as a lapdog at heart, house-trained, and a friend to everyone he met.

Finally, after 500 days, Drogo’s moment arrived. He was adopted, filling the shelter with joy and relief. However, this happiness was short-lived. Just a week later, Drogo was returned to the shelter, leaving him and everyone who cared for him heartbroken.

@goodboygonehome We are all crushed that Drogo was returned to the shelter so quickly. He was one of the longest stay dogs at the shelter and now he’s back again. He’s devastated. Despite this setback, the shelter staff refused to give up on Drogo. They intensified their efforts, sharing his story through videos and articles.

Drogo’s 4th birthday and his 550th day at the shelter were marked with a special celebration, with everyone wishing for his permanent adoption.

@goodboygonehome 74 pets found forever homes today at the annual Clear the Shelters event. So happy for all of them! Sadly, Drogo wasn’t one of them. In a twist of fate, Drogo’s long wait finally came to an end. After more than 500 days in the shelter, he was adopted again.

This time, the hope is that Drogo has found his true forever home, where his broken heart can be mended, and he can enjoy the love and care he has always deserved.
