All dogs are beautiful. It does not matter if they have special needs, permanent marks, or untraditional features, they are still precious creatures that deserve to be cherished.
One dog, named Walter, was ignored and left at a shelter. The reasons the dog was ignored (many times) damaged a certain animal lover’s heart. The animal fan, a woman called Gabby, was currently at the shelter rescuing another dog when she was called over by a volunteer to meet Walter.
The volunteer said, “Hey Gabby, you’ve got to see this dog!” The volunteer recognized that Gabby saved dogs with special needs and believed she may be able to help Walter find a forever home. As quickly as Gabby laid eyes on the unique puppy, she knew he was anything but ordinary. She had never ever seen a canine that was this skinny or had such a noticable underbite. He also had apparent deformities to his legs and spine. Gabby really did not care. She wanted to hold Walter and present herself.
Gabby understood that Walter had not been simply distinctive and special to her, she also realized the cool hard truth. Walter would be extremely tough to place because of his special requirements and he ‘d either languish in the sanctuary for a long time or be taken down. Many people cringed when they passed by Walter’s kennel. Lots of folks thought the canine was simply simple ugly. But not Gabby! She thought he was best.
The kind-hearted lady knew right there that she had to take Walter home and adopt him herself. Gabby quickly ignored the dog’s “defects.” To her, Walter was flawless. It didn’t matter that he really did not look like other dogs or that he would not live a lengthy life; all that mattered was that he can love and Gabby was capable of giving him a good life.
Walter has a rare genetic condition called mucopolysaccharidosis, likewise known as MPS VI. Sadly, it is an incurable progressive disorder. But even though Walter could not have a lengthy life, it does not mean he could not have a good life. When Walter went home with Gabby, she could see immediately that he’s extraordinary. He’s happy all the time. He’s identified to walk (and even attempt to run) as much as possible. Although it’s difficult on his body to get around, very little stopped Walter. And Gabby loved that!
Initially, when Walter came home, Gabby concentrated on physical therapy in a small kiddie pool. Walter loved it. And the water strengthened his body greatly. After that it was time to take on the yard. Walter really did not allow anything slow him down, particularly walking as quick as he could to get to his mother who cheered him on the whole time.
Gabby connects her bond with Walter to her dad who died from Several Sclerosis. She explains, in the video clip below, that at the end of her dad’s life, he was also disabled but stayed very strong. This gave Gabby a whole new perspective on people and animals that face such adversities yet exhibit such tenacity. Seeing Walter and his favorable attitude reminded Gabby of her dad. Her dad was the exact very same way.
This story is truly unique– and the video below showcases Walter and Gabby’s trip wonderfully. We urge you to take a beat out of your active day and enjoy it. As soon as you do, you’ll intend to share it with family and friends so they understand that ALL CREATURES are worthy of a pleased life whatever! Do not you agree?
