Rescuers from the Austin Humane Society in Texas were astounded to discover a massive Pit Bull mix tethered to a bench, wearing a forlorn expression that tugged at their hearts. Instantly recognizing his distress, the rescue team understood that he was unwell.

“He was … crusty from head to toe. He had infections of the skin and eyes, and desperately needed medicated baths, eye drops and ointment to treat them,” the 15/10 Foundation wrote on Facebook.

Despite experiencing pain, the pup’s excitement was palpable, with his tail wagging vigorously the moment he spotted the approaching rescuers. Gently stroking his head, the rescuers, later naming him Gordough, became instant heroes in his eyes. His gaze filled with affection and gratitude as they carefully untied his leash from the bench.

The pup instantly endeared himself to the shelter staff upon their first encounter.

“Gordough is a big guy, he weighs 115 pounds but has a sweet and gentle demeanor,” Austin Humane Society wrote on Instagram.

Under the dedicated care of his guardians, Gordough underwent a soothing bath. Remarkably patient, he endured the application of numerous ointments to alleviate his skin condition.
