Abandoned But Not Alone: The Unbreakable Bond of Three Pups and Their Wait for Rescue

Just recently, there was a heartwarming and bittersweet story unfolding in Southern California. A known dog rescue, Logan’s Legacy, got a call about three little wagging tails left to take care of themselves in a local neighborhood. Suzette Hall, the fairy dog mother at Logan’s Legacy, wasn’t able to attend to them right away but had her dog-loving friends ready for action.

As Hall’s paw squad arrived, they found a heartwrenching scene: three puppies, just as the caller described, huddled close as three peas in a pod on the sidewalk. They sat with their tails twined together, eyes focused forward, acting as each other’s personal bodyguards. None of these loyal siblings dared to abandon their post.

Their little bums were just planted on that corner, waiting, hoping their family will return for them.

After chatting with the neighbors the rescue team learned that the dogs’ family had set them free from their car near Magic Johnson Park in Los Angeles, before driving off without a glance back at them. The neighbors saw the helpless trio scamper into the park, their new refuge.

“They scampered into the park and huddled together,” Hall said. “It was quite the nail-biter, so many cars around, they almost hit them.”

Days turned into a despair-filled waiting game as they hoped for their family to return. Their little hearts nearly gave up, with all the wait, but that’s when Hall’s team stepped in.

When the rescuers first arrived, they found the trio like a three-legged dog statue on the sidewalk. But as the temperature rose during the day, the dogs sprinted off in search of shade. Wherever they roamed, they stuck as a bundle of fluff together.

“On this hot day, there was a car offering some shade,” Hall said. “They scooted under the car, but they were all wrapped around each other like a fur pretzel.”

Usually, Hall and her team use dog traps to ensure a safe rescue for strays. But this fluffy trio didn’t need any such preparation at all.

“My rescuers simply offered them some food, and they toddled over,” Hall said. “They accepted the help of the team without hesitation.”

Two of the puppies were a bit uncertain at first, but the only girl in the group showed her bravery and trotted over to her rescuers. They picked her up, nestled her into their van, and her brothers quickly tagged along after her.

“Seemed like they didn’t want to be parted from their sister,” Hall said.

As the rescuers got the pups into the van, they realized the dire condition these furry fellas were in.

“They were a tick-tastic mess,” Hall said. “Their coats were like dreadlocks, and each of them was a walking tick feast.”

Despite their discomfort, their little tails wagged at the joy of being together. They took a joyride to one of the rescuer’s houses and stayed glued to each other throughout their journey.

At their new temporary home, each pup got their much-needed grooming, freeing them from the pesky ticks and matted fur. Their tails wagged faster almost instantly, but nothing comforted them more than their favorite snuggle fest with each other that night.

“They were just inseparable all night long,” Hall said.

While it is usual for street dogs to often form survival bonds, Hall felt that there was something unique about this trio.

“Usually, street dogs part ways after a rescue, as they had only been staying together feeling safe,” Hall said. “But these guys are genuinely bonded. If one even goes out to answer nature’s call without the other, they cry their little hearts out.”

Polly, Damien, and Barkley, as they were later named, are now in a foster home. However, this story is not over as they’re hoping for a forever home to adopt their tight-knit trio.

“The dream would be for them to find a home together,” Hall said. “They’re the sweetest little munchkins.”

As Hall searches for the pawfect family for Polly, Damien, and Barkley, the delightful trio remains closer than ever. They no longer have to face the harsh reality of street life, but their pact remains, sticking together through thick and thin.
