Ladybird, a senior black Lab with a spirit as bright as her name, found herself in an unexpected situation one day in Destrehan, Louisiana.
Her owner, facing tough times and homelessness, had to make the difficult decision to leave her temporarily in a park bathroom with nothing but a note explaining his return and a plea for kindness towards his beloved dog.

For nine years, Ladybird and her owner had been inseparable, sharing adventures across the country. But this time, their journey hit a bump in the road. Left with a note and some water, Ladybird’s story could have taken a turn for the worse. However, fate had other plans.
The next morning, her owner’s return was met with the news that Ladybird was no longer there; she had been taken to St. Charles Parish Animal Shelter.

The shelter, upon learning the full extent of Ladybird and her owner’s bond, decided to step in and help. With the assistance of Virginia Beach SPCA, Ladybird was not only given a warm bath and a day of pampering but was also treated to a pupachino for being such a brave girl.
Her story touched many hearts, leading to a group of pet organizations rallying together to fund her journey back home to North Carolina.

The reunion with her family, especially her grandma, was nothing short of sweet. Ladybird’s owner, still in Louisiana, later reached out to express his gratitude and happiness for Ladybird’s safe return.
Thanks to the kindness of strangers and their love for animals, Ladybird was back where she belonged, with her family in North Carolina, ready to start anew.
