One day, the staff at DeKalb County Animal Services in Georgia encountered a heartbreaking sight just outside their facility.
A Pit Bull puppy had been abandoned in a discarded plum box. The underfed and visibly shaken little puppy clung to the box for comfort, even after being moved indoors by the shelter’s compassionate staff.
Despite their attempts to coax him out, the puppy, appropriately named Plum, continued to seek solace within his makeshift refuge. Plum’s palpable fear and sadness were evident, a cruel consequence of being callously left behind by his family.

“We just wanted to hug him, make him feel better, and let him know he was safe. We set up a nice crate with a fluffy bed and some treats and left the door open, hoping he would go in on his own,” Karen from LifeLine Animal Project told The Dodo.

It took weeks, but Plum slowly warmed up to some of the shelter’s staff and started venturing out. As Plum left his box behind, the shelter witnessed the unveiling of his true, delightful character. “When Plum arrived, he was unable to leave the safety of his box. He has made so much progress, and we love seeing his personality blossom,” LifeLine Animal Project shared in a Facebook post. Plum’s affectionate and snuggly nature quickly endeared him to the shelter workers, making him a fast favorite among them.

As time passed, Plum’s playful and quirky side began to emerge, bringing joy to everyone around him. With persistent efforts to help him overcome his initial fears, it became evident that Plum was ready for a new beginning. His forever home awaited with Melonie, an Atlanta resident who felt an instant connection and knew she was meant to adopt him. Starting as a lean puppy, Plum underwent a transformation, gaining nearly 20 pounds and now sporting a healthier physique.

In his new home, Plum has found companions among other animals, establishing himself as a delightful addition to the family. Melonie affectionately describes Plum as incredibly sweet, yet amusingly goofy. Despite a challenging start, this tenacious pup is now reveling in his best life, and we couldn’t be more thrilled for him!
