An abandoned dog spent fifteen months living on her very own near rural Ducor, California prior to being rescued by a man that rejected to provide up on her.

Like a wild animal, she roamed the fields by day and slept under solar panels in the evening. She relied on people that passed by to provide her food. People did try to assist but even animal control could not catch her.

Week after week, she was on her very own till a very special person came into her life and changed it permanently. His name was Danny Spanks from A Safefurr Place Animal Rescue. He learned of her circumstance and chose to assist.

He saw her for the first time in early December. Thankfully it wasn’t too cold. When he snooped her, she was behind the fence of a solar panel enclosure and took off as soon as she saw him but that didn’t deter him.

He began to call her Mama and visited her every day. However, whenever he approached, she escaped. Attempting to get her trust, he chose to build her a sanctuary and feeding station out of a pile of rubbish, mattress, and box springs that he found nearby. It would certainly give them a place to meet.

She moved into her little shelter and was willing to eat and drink the food Danny left for her there daily. After a while, she didn’t run as much or as fast as she had previously. Time passed and ultimately, he allowed him to rest close-by while she ate.

Then one day several months later, something amazing happened. Mother wished to play! She bowed and danced from a safe distance, the first signs that he was appearing her hard shell and reaching her tender heart, however she still really did not let him get close to her.

She eventually began to obtain physically better to him and was always pleased to see him. She began to approach and have a little smell. Accept tasty treats, and enjoyed the comradery of her brand-new friend even if she had not been ready to completely trust him yet.

Every day, Mama waited for Danny in the same place and he never disappointed her. Both forged a relationship and ever so slowly Danny gained her trust little by little, never ever rushing it. It was clear she loved him even if she had not been prepared to go with him.

After three months of visiting Mother, Danny found out the truth about her history. 5 miles away, she had been abandoned at a gasoline station months before. From the pictures shared with him, she had been nursing puppies at the time.

Mother had actually been on her very own ever since and dumped at her most vulnerable time. No wonder she really did not trust so quickly. Her heart had been broken by those that were expected to love her permanently.

But Danny really did not give up and played leash games with her to desensitize her. He wasn’t mosting likely to provide up and was fully committed to rescuing her no matter for how long it took. He dealt with her to accept his touch and eventually established a humane trap to one day catch her in.

Week after week he continued to patiently work to bring the Mama home with him. Everyday brought them a tiny step better together but it wasn’t simple and many people probably would have given up.

After Mama obtained comfortable going in and out of the trap, the day finally came. Fifteen months after she was abandoned, they had a strategy in place to finally catch her. It was completion of her roaming the fields alone and the start of the rest of her life.

She was moved from the fields to Danny’s home and the procedure of getting her trust started again. Slowly she started to get comfortable in her brand-new home and ultimately settled into her brand-new life.
